Activities and services

IAMCR offers prizes for outstanding papers, has a Task Force on Media and Communication Policy, manages a publications series, and offers discounts on journals.

Every two years IAMCR holds a General Assembly and Scientific Congress. In the past years conferences have been held in Prague, Paris, Caracas, Barcelona, New Delhi, Bled, Guaruja, Porto Alegre, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Sydney, Cairo, Paris, Stockholm and Mexico City. These events attract hundreds of researchers from dozens of countries: the latest conference in 2009 in Mexico City was attended by about 800 people from 70 countries. The next Congress will be held in Braga, Portugal July 18-22 July 2010.

Registered members have access to a membership directory and a searchable membership database. Members also have access to abstracts and full papers presented at IAMCR conferences. An events calendar and a list of open access journals are the most recent additions to IAMCR's services. IAMCR maintains an Announcements list for the dissemination of activities, publications, reports, meetings, and other information relevant to IAMCR members and the communications research community at large. Members and friends can also follow IAMCR on Twitter and Facebook .

Over the past few years, several comparative research projects have been designed and carried out by IAMCR members. IAMCR is committed to the widest dissemination of research and writing in the field of communications.

Paid-up members are entitled to a variety of discounts on academic journals, as well as special registration fees for conferences.
