IAMCR Profile

 Strasbourg 1957
Founded in 1957 with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), IAMCR is a global professional association of media and communication researchers. It promotes media and communication research throughout the world and its more than 1,500 members include individuals and institutions from some 100 countries and all continents. In addition to the strong academic and professional experience of its members, their diverse geographical and cultural nature is one of the association's main strengths.

IAMCR's members promote and defend the interests of the professional community of media and communication researchers in terms of freedom of academic thought and expression, and career development. IAMCR also works to promote the public presence of the field of communication research and to promote and support the input of media and communication researchers in local, national and global agendas.

 
More than 50 years ago UNESCO was the main initiator of IAMCR and provided the founding platform. IAMCR maintains its Formal Consultative Relationship with the UN system and has Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
