In her opening contribution to the discussion Virginia wrote: "In general we are looking to organise the guidelines under 4 headings: Personal Ethics; Work Ethics; Ethics in Research practice; Ethics in Teaching practice. The aim is to allow IAMCR to have an 'ethics agenda' without being proscriptive ...i.e. we're not aiming to tell people what to do and what not to do, but to generate some guidelines that facilitate discussion and debate in contemporary academic and professional practice. At last year's conference Virginia Nightingale, chair of IAMCR's Audience Section, undertook to coordinate the preparation of a draft proposal on Ethical Guidelines for Media Practice, Education and Research.
