IAMCR new journal policy

journals_The financial report presented to IAMCR general assembly last July showed that subsidising journal subscriptions for members cost the association approximately US$15,000 in 2009 – making it the second most important item in our annual budget. In response a motion was passed noting that many members already receive the journals at their institutions and urging the association to consider how this money “might be reallocated to more pressing needs”. As a result IAMCR has adopted a new journal subscription policy.

Whereas in the past regular and institutional members from high income countries automatically received a subscription to one of three leading journals in our field, the new policy makes these journal subscriptions optional and at an extra cost.

The money previously used to subsidize journal subscriptions from high-income members will now be redirected to providing conference travel scholarships to IAMCR members from low-income countries who would not otherwise be able to attend.

Subsidised journal subscriptions will continue to be offered for members from low income countries.
