Rethinking borders and boundaries: Beyond the global/local dichotomy in communication studies

Nairobi, Kenya and wherever you are, 11-15 July 2021

IAMCR invites the submission of abstracts of papers and proposals for multi-paper sessions for its 2021 conference. Nairobi2021 will be held online with a regional hub in Nairobi, Kenya. The conference will be hosted by United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa). Deadline for submission is 9 February 2021 at 23.59 UTC.

The School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts (SCCCA) of the United States International University-Africa is proud to host the IAMCR 2021 conference to be held from 11-15 July. In this video Prof. Paul Tiyambe Zeleza, Vice Chancellor of USIU-Africa welcomes the IAMCR community to Nairobi2021.

In alignment with the possibilities offered by the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the conference’s main theme, Rethinking Borders and Boundaries, IAMCR 2021’s conference will offer multiple modalities for participation. It will be primarily an online conference but will also have an African “hub” at USIU-Africa, and satellite activities at various points around the globe.

This year's conference theme is a search for transformations that are global but with local bearings, and those where the local moves towards the global. Can boundaries be seen as portals, offering a post-global and post-local vision? How have transformations of the modes of communication enabled the local to disrupt the global?
