Religion, Communication & Culture Working Group

This Working Group has a special interest in religious aspects of communication. It tries to foster international cooperation in the field, discussion and exchange of ideas, and common research projects.

To join the Religion, Communication & Culture Working Group, login to your account and select My Sections and Working Groups from the menu. A number of IAMCR sections and working groups send notices and other information exclusively to their members. IAMCR members can join up to five sections or working groups.

This Working Group considers important topics around the interaction between religion and the media, including the way religious groups are brought into political alliances as pressure groups and their uses of the media, the complexities of religious agencies with regard to public opinion; and in community building to proclamation, art to expression of faith, apologetic and propagandistic media usage and reception.

It is not always clear, though, how religion serves in a communicative role, especially in the mass media.  The IAMCR Media, Religion and Culture Working Group invites proposals for papers exploring clarifications of the religious as  a context for civil participation and responsibility both more generally and also focused on the conference theme: "Communication and Citizenship: Rethinking Crisis and Change".
