We are pleased to present IAMCR in retrospect, a brief history of the Association prepared by Cees Hamelink and Kaarle Nordenstreng, with contributions by Raymond B. Nixon, Jacques Bourquin and James D. Halloran. Hamelink and Nordenstreng are preparing a more complete history.

Additional accounts from some key witnesses and actors of the early fascinating days can be found below. These accounts constitute the beginning of a collection of articles wich will contribute to Hamelink and Nordenstreng work in progress.

A highlight of the Oaxaca Conference (1997) was IAMCR's XL Anniversary Ceremony. The main pan of the ceremony consisted of speeches by James Halloran, Hamid Mowlana, Kaarle Nordenstreng, Gertrude Robinson and Herbert Schiller in which these IAMCR stalwarts recounted their histories of IAMCR. Gertrude Robinson's speech appeared in the Nov. 1997 Newsletter; James Halloran's in that of March 1998. Hamid Mowlana's speech is reproduced below.
