Local voices, global connections
An IAMCR pre-conference

Come along to explore podcasting’s value as a form of journalism, storytelling, and scholarship! This pre-conference event brings together media and communications scholars and industry practitioners to examine how podcasting is implicated in broader transformations impacting politics, culture, and knowledge creation. It is open to attendees of the IAMCR2026 main conference, and to anyone who uses or is interested in using podcasting as part of their work with industry, community or otherwise.
The day features four main activities: (1) Keynote address: Professor Karin Wahl-Jorgensen on podcasting as boutique media (2) Storytelling for impact: exploring podcasting’s transformative potential across society, community, and the academy, with real-world case studies (3) Podcast “listening club”: learn how to critique and evaluate podcasts, facilitated by leading podcasting scholar and founding editor of RadioDoc Review, Dr Siobhan McHugh (4) networking and knowledge-sharing among attendees.
The event builds on two prior IAMCR podcast-focused events in 2024-5. Sessions will be facilitated by specialists in scholarly podcasting, who bring extensive experience as both practitioners and researchers.
The event aims to foster international, cross-disciplinary connections, and bridge academia with industry, to inspire collaborative projects that address global challenges through podcasting. Join us to explore how podcasting can be used as a powerful vessel for journalism, storytelling and research.
