University of Galway was established in 1845, enrolling its first cohort of just 68 students in 1849. Today, it is home to over 2,500 staff and 20,000 students, including 4,000 international students from over 100 countries. Over the past two centuries, University of Galway has built a distinguished reputation for teaching and research excellence in the areas associated with its four Colleges:

  • College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies

  • College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences

Galway is a city located on the West Coast of Ireland. It sits on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay and has a population of approximately 85,000. A vibrant, cosmopolitan city steeped in culture and rich in folklore, the city is famous for its cobble-stoned streets, quaint shops and charming restaurants. It is known as Ireland’s cultural heart and is renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals, celebrations and events. Home to the world-renowned Druid Theatre Company, Macnas Street Theatre Company and An Taibhdhearc, there is much to do in this wonderful city.
