Montreal 2015

UQAM - Host of IAMCR 2015IAMCR'S 2015 conference was held July 12-16 2015 in Montreal, Canada. Hosted by the Faculté de communication at the Université du Québec à Montréal, IAMCR 2015 was the first IAMCR conference in North America. The conference theme was: Hegemony or Resistance? On the Ambiguous Power of Communication. Information is available below and on the Montreal organisers website.

On July 6, 2015 an informational letter was emailed to registered IAMCR 2015 participants. It features information about arriving in Montreal and registration, as well as a few tips about things to look forward to and information about web-streaming and use of social media during the conference.
IAMCR is pleased to announce that the 2015 New Directions for Climate Communication Research Fellowship will be awarded to Dr. Cornelia Brantner for her proposal Comparing Climate Change Discourse and Deliberation on Twitter: Topics, Arguments, Actors, Networks, and Discourse Quality. An honorable mention will be awarded to Christopher Shaw.
IAMCR is pleased to announce that the 2015 award in memory of Stuart Hall will be presented to Faith Kibere, a fourth year PhD candidate at the University of Leicester in the UK for her paper "The Politics of Representation in Kibera Slum, Kenya".
IAMCR and the Urban Communication Foundation are pleased to announce that the 2015 UCF/IAMCR Urban Communication Research Grant will be awarded to Olesya Venger, Assistant Professor at the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Venger was awarded the prize for her research project on the spatiality of sexual marketing in Las Vegas. An honorable mention will be awarded to Robert Topinka.
The programme of the IAMCR preconference, Media and Journalists in the Age of Open Government and Transparency, is now available for download. The pre-conference is in collaboration with and will serve as the 11th edition of the International Congress of Ethics and Communication Law (CIEDI 2015) and is co-sponsored by the IAMCR Law Section and Ethics Working Group
Consult the statements of candidates for positions as officers of the ten IAMCR Sections and Working Groups holding elections during the 2015 conference in Montreal.
Elections will take place during the business meetings of the sections and working groups in Montreal.
On June 8, 2015 an informational letter was emailed to all registered IAMCR 2015 participants. It reminded them to submit papers online by June 19, announced that the draft programme of parallel sessions will be posted on June 12. Watch your inbox for more letters to come.
Some of IAMCR's Sections and Working Groups will be holding elections for their officers during IAMCR 2015 in Montreal. This article includes the election announcements of the individual Section and Working Groups.
The elections will be managed by the incumbent officers of each section or working group, in accordance with the Rules and practices for the election of Section and Working Group Heads
Thirteen travel grants of US$1,500 each have been awarded to support the participation of IAMCR members at our upcoming conference in Montreal.
The nine women and four men are from eleven different countries and will present papers to eleven of IAMCR's 31 sections and working groups.
On April 27, 2015 a third letter was sent to authors with proposals accepted for presentation at IAMCR 2015. It focused on the May 6 deadline to register at special earlybird rates. Watch your inbox for more letters to come.
