Podcasting, journalism & storytelling for impact

Local voices, global connections

An IAMCR pre-conference

Come along to explore podcasting’s value as a form of journalism, storytelling, and scholarship! This pre-conference event brings together media and communications scholars and industry practitioners to examine how podcasting is implicated in broader transformations impacting politics, culture, and knowledge creation.

The day features four main sessions: (1) a keynote address and subsequent panel discussion focused on how podcasting is changing journalism, featuring a mix of leading international scholars and industry practitioners; (2) a listening session and panel discussion, showcasing three scholarly podcasts from different countries; (3) a podcast “listening club”, involving critical analysis of a significant podcast, held in a roundtable format; (4) networking and knowledge-sharing among attendees.

Building on two prior IAMCR podcast-focused events in 2024-5, this pre-conference event expands its focus beyond the field of Podcast Studies to welcome all academics interested in podcasting. Sessions will be facilitated by specialists in scholarly podcasting, who bring extensive experience as both practitioners and researchers.

The event aims to foster international, cross-disciplinary connections, and bridge academia with industry, to inspire collaborative projects that address global challenges through podcasting. Join us to explore how podcasting can be used as a powerful vessel for journalism, storytelling and research.
