IAMCR's 2024 conference will be held in Christchurch, New Zealand from 30 June to 4 July 2024. It will be a face-to-face conference with a few activities and special events for IAMCR members who are not attending the Christchurch event. One of those will be Pitopito kōrero, a special strand of the conference that invites members to submit proposals for short videos on the conference theme, Whiria te tāngata / Weaving people together: Communicative projects of decolonising, engaging, and listening.

Authors of selected proposals will be invited to create short videos (4 minutes) that will be shown during a special session of the conference, chaired and introduced by a senior scholar in the field. The videos will also be available online during and after the conference. We expect to select about 15 proposals, although it may be more or fewer.

Videos can document new research, describe a project, provide space for voices to be heard, or follow another format appropriate to the content and people involved. They must be original work aimed at the IAMCR audience.

Please send proposals of up to 250 words to Prof Verica Rupar (verica.rupar@aut.ac.nz) by 23:59 UTC on 7 February 2024. Do not send videos at the abstract stage and do not submit your proposal via the IAMCR 2024 ExOrdo submission system.

Proposals must be for video presentations that: 1) connect with the conference theme; and 2) make an original contribution to knowledge. Your proposal must provide detail on how you will make good use of the video format to communicate your work.

Decisions will be communicated on 11 March 2024 and full videos must be sent to the conference organisers by 15 May 2024. Creators of the selected works are not expected to attend the conference or to register, but they must be current members of IAMCR.

Note that this strand of the conference is distinct from the work of IAMCR sections and working groups and Flow 34. Proposals must be emailed to Prof Verica Rupar (verica.rupar@aut.ac.nz). They will be evaluated by the IAMCR 2024 Christchurch Local Organising Committee and invitations will be sent by the Committee.
