IAMCR 2014: Ethics of Society and Ethics of Communication Working Group - CfP - Deadline 10 February

IAMCR 2014 - Ethics of Society and Ethics of Communication Working Group - Call for papers

Theme: “Region as Frame: Politics, presence, practice”

The Ethics of Society and Ethics of Communication Working Group of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) invites submissions for the 2014 IAMCR to be held at Hyderabad, India, from July 15 to 19, 2014.

The working group is concerned with ethical and deontological problems and challenges of the communicators and the communication media. We want to take into consideration how values help to improve the practice of communication in three main areas: information, entertainment and persuasion. We also want to point out the importance of critical reception. Research and contribution from the practical and theoretical point of view are always welcome. Works related to new media are particularly relevant to us.

The Working Group welcomes submissions on all areas of interest to the broad designator of Ethics, and it is especially interested in research on the topics regarding the general Theme of the Conference: “Region as frame: Politics, presences, practice”.. A list of possible topics has been suggested by conference organizers and can be found in the general call on the IAMCR website. These are the topics that seem most consonant with our working group:

  • Regional media policies: ethics and values

  • Media as a reflexion of regional values or as conductor of these values

  • Information, freedom and Human Rights in the emergent regional media

  • Policy changes in media according to regions

  • Ethocentrical tendencies in regional media

  • Ethical values in the major entertaining industries: mainstream industry.

  • Personal security in regional media: protect the Newspaper workers

  • Support to regional media creations

  • Regional stereotyped society in film and TV series.

We encourage the submission of individual papers and complete panel proposals in any of the three official association languages (English, French, Spanish).

All proposals must be submitted through the online Open Conference System at http://iamcr-ocs.org from 1 December 2013 – 10 February 2014. Early submission is strongly encouraged.

Please take note that there are to be no email submissions of abstracts addressed to any Section or Working Group Head.

Individuals may submit 1 abstract (paper) per Section or Working Group as lead author, and a maximum of 2 abstracts (papers) to a single IAMCR conference in general. However, under no circumstances should there be more than two (2) abstracts bearing the name of the same applicant either individually or as part of any group of authors.  Also please note that the same abstract or another version with minor variations in title or content must not be submitted to other Sections or Working Groups of the Association for consideration, after an initial submission. Such submissions will be deemed to be in breach of the conference guidelines and will be automatically rejected by the Open Conference System, by the relevant Head or by the Conference Programme Reviewer. Such applicants risk being removed entirely from the conference programme.

Presenters are expected to bring fully developed work to the conference. Prior to the conference, it is expected that a completed paper will be submitted to Section, Working Group, Session Chairs, and/or Discussants. If a proposal is accepted, you also have to register for the conference in order to be included in the final conference program.
