The IAMCR Emerging Scholars Network (ESN), in partnership with the Trust, Culture & Publics Network (TCPN), the Journalism Studies Association of the Philippines (JSAP), and the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS), invites you to this timely roundtable forum.

Crises of trust are increasingly defining features of public life. In the Global South, legitimacy is not merely institutional but deeply cultural, historical, and power-laden. This forum will reflect on these dynamics—amid recent corruption scandals in the Philippines and wider debates about accountability—to ask how publics negotiate trust and how communication studies might be re-centered from the South.

Speakers:

  • Prof. Silvio Waisbord, Immediate Past President, International Communication Association
  • Prof. Jean Encinas-Franco, University of the Philippines Diliman
  • Ferdinand Sanchez II, SIGLA Research Center
  • Dr. Karl Patrick R. Mendoza, Polytechnic University of the Philippines

Discussant and Moderator:

Felipe Salvosa II, Journalism practitioner and academic, University of Santo Tomas

Registration:

Participation is free. Zoom slots are limited and lightly screened. Registered participants will receive a certificate and one-year TCPN membership (January–December 2026).

Register by Tuesday, 14 October 2025 here.

The forum will also be livestreamed on the TCPN Facebook page.

We look forward to your participation in this important conversation on reclaiming the public and rethinking communication from the Global South.
