Political Communication in Latin America: Populism, Democratic Dilemmas and Disintermediation Technologies

20-22 May, Puebla, Mexico

The Political Communication Section of IAMCR calls for submissions for a first Regional Conference for Latin America, to be held on May 20, 21 and 22, 2025, at the Institute of Government Sciences and Strategic Development (ICGDE) of the Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico. The deadline for abstract submission is 18 November, 2024.

The conference focuses on the role of political communication in the democratic consolidation of Latin America. It offers a space for high-quality presentations, network building, and the promotion of collaborative projects among academics, whether based in the region or abroad.

Participation modalities

The Conference will have a mixed nature, with hybrid sessions, both in-person and online. Thus, it is possible to participate in three modalities:

a. In-person paper presentation
b. Online paper presentation
c. On-site assistant (subject to availability).

Following the event, interested participants will be able to expand and enrich their work in the form of a paper or book chapter to be sent to the following publications:

  1. Paper for a special issue of the indexed journal “Palabra Clave” (Scimago Q2)
  2. Book chapter for a volume edited by Tirant Lo Blanch.

Language

Abstracts can be submitted in any of the IAMCR oficial languages (Spanish, English and French). Nonetheless, the presentations, as well as the ensuing discussion, will be held in Spanish.

Submission and presentation of papers

Abstracts for the event must be submitted through the Ex Ordo platform https://iamcr-mexico-2025.exordo.com/login, which will be enabled from October 1, 2024.

The deadline for abstract submission is 18 November, 2024

Contributions will have a maximum of 700 words, not including bibliographical references.

Up to two abstracts may be submitted, one as sole or main author, and one as co-author.

Accepted participants will receive specific instructions for the presentation of their work, which will ensure:

• 15 minutes to develop your presentation (in person or online).
• 30 minutes for collective feedback and comments within the thematic groups, facilitated by a commentator or discussant.

• Start of abstract submission period: October, 2024
• Deadline for abstract submission: November 18, 2024
• Acceptance Notification: December 13, 2024
• Conference Dates: May 20, 21, and 22, 2025
• Deadline for submission of articles or chapters: July 30, 2025
• Publication of articles and chapters: January 2026
