Waqas Mahmood, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan

Waqas Mahmood's strategic plan for 2023-2026

Waqas is a lecturer, PhD student, journalist, media trainer, and social media expert. He has been serving as a Lecturer of Mass Communication and Media Studies at GIFT University Gujranwala, Pakistan, since March 2018. Furthermore, he is pursuing his PhD in Media Studies at the Department of Media Studies, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan, with a project on “Misinformation on Social media”. He was also a Visiting Graduate Student in the Department of Communication, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, on the six-month IRSIP fellowship program funded by HEC Pakistan.

His research interests include Communication in Digital Era, Misinformation and Information Disorder, Media Literacy and Media Mindfulness, and Media Effects on Kids. Aside from his doctoral project, he has delivered several speeches internationally and presented his research at various events, including the IAMCR Presidential PhD Research Webinar.

Observing the Pakistani graduate students’ lack of information on international journals, and conferences and their limited access to opportunities for improving their research skills, Waqas believes that his role as an IAMCR PhD Ambassador will help him provide information about the opportunities for media researchers and contribute to the improvement of the academic life in Pakistan.
