The deadline to apply for the 2026 Decolonising the Digital Award is 31 March at 23:59 UTC.

Requirements

To be selected for the 2026 Decolonising the Digital Award, papers are required to display scholarly excellence, to be innovative in nature, and to have an explicit focus on Decolonising the Digital.

  • Papers may be submitted by authors from all career stages
  • Papers must have been accepted for presentation at IAMCR 2026 by one of IAMCR's sections or working groups
  • Papers should have a maximum of 7,000 words (abstract and references will not count towards the paper limit)
  • Papers must be based on work that has not already been published or firmly committed elsewhere
  • Applicants must be members of IAMCR for the year 2026, either individually or as a representative of an institutional member
  • IAMCR 2026 will offer several awards recognising outstanding academic work submitted to the conference. A paper may be submitted to only one of the following: the Herbert I. Schiller Award, the Decolonising the Digital Award, the Reformulation of Media Production in a Global Context of Automation Award, or the Urban Communication Award. Papers submitted to more than one of the above awards will be disqualified from consideration for all awards.
