A multi-paper session (MPS) is the online conference equivalent of a panel in a face to face conference. When you submit a proposal for a MPS, you and a group of colleagues are proposing to submit 4 or 5 papers that you will group together in a single "session".
Complete MPS proposals must be submitted by one person, the session coordinator. A complete proposal includes:
- A multi-paper session (MPS) overview (session title, a framing text, authors’ names and titles of each paper);
- An abstract for each paper.
If you are the session coordinator, follow these steps to submit your MPS. Part A is for submitting the session overview and Part B for submitting each abstract. Note that you must choose the same Topic(s) for all submissions in the proposal.
A. Submit the MPS overview
Go to the conference submission site at https://iamcr2022.exordo.com. If you already have an account, login. If you don’t, create a new account. Click on Submit Your Abstract Now to begin.
The next page has instructions for submitting a proposal and a seven-step menu on the left. Read the instructions and then click Next at the bottom of the page. This will take you to Step 1, Track.
Step 1: Track. Choose the Section or Working Group (Track) you want to submit to. If you are uncertain, see the calls for papers of the various Sections and Working Groups.
After each step, click on Done at the bottom of the page to move to the next step.
Step 2: Format.Choose A multi-paper session (MPS) overview.
Step 3: Title & Abstract. In the Title box, write MPS overview - followed by the title of your proposed multi-paper session. Then, in the Abstract box, type or paste the overview (session title, a framing text, authors’ names and titles of each paper. If you want to propose a chair to facilitate the online commenting, or a "discussant", this is where you should include their name and affiliation). The overview cannot exceed 500 words in total.
Step 4: As the MPS session coordinator, your name should appear as the author of the MPS Overview. (Note – this will not count towards the conference’s two-paper submission limit). You will be both Corresponding Author and Presenting Author as in the image below.
Step 5: Topics. Where topic choices are offered, choosing a topic from among the options identifies your proposal with a suitable theme or themes. This will help the section and working group heads pair it with reviewers with relevant expertise. Note that the topic(s) you select for the MPS overview must also be used for each of the paper abstracts you will submit.
Step 6. References (optional). No references should be included in the MPS overview. Click Done and continue to the next step
Step 7: Compliance Checklist. Check to indicate that your submission complies with IAMCR submission guidelines.
When all steps have been completed, click on Done and Save Submission.
B. Submit the MPS abstracts
The steps for submitting the abstracts are the same as the above with a few exceptions. The parts in blue highlight important differences from the procedures for submitting the MPS overview.
Step 1: Track. Choose the same Section or Working Group as you did for the MPS overview.
Step 2: Format. Select One of the abstracts of a multi-paper session.
Step 3: Title & Abstract. In the Title box, write MPS paper - followed by the title of the paper. The title should have fewer than 95 characters. Then type or paste the abstract in the Abstract box. The abstract cannot exceed 500 words in total.
Step 4: Authors. Select Add Another Author, add the email of the author, then click on “+Add”. If s/he already has an Ex Ordo account with that email address, the details will automatically be displayed. If not, you will have to add their first and last name, affiliation and country.
Here you have two options. How you proceed will depend on how you want the communication to flow during the review process.
- Option 1: If, as the session coordinator, you want to receive any correspondence about the paper, then you can remove yourself as a Presenting Author and make the new author the Presenting Author. You can then use the Re-order function to make the presenting author first on the list. See the image below. Keep yourself as the Corresponding Author in order to get notices from the system. See the image below as a model. Later, when the review process is over, we will remove your name as an author so it appears correctly in the programme. See the image below as a model.
- Option 2: If you prefer that the author of the paper receives the correspondence about it, then Remove yourself completely as an author of the paper, leaving the paper's author as both Corresponding and Presenting Author.
Step 5: Topics. For Tracks offering topic choices, choose the same topic(s) as you did for the MPS overview.
Step 6: References (optional). Here, you may optionally enter references that the authors will cite in the paper.
Step 7: Compliance Checklist. Check the statements to indicate that the submission complies with IAMCR submission guidelines.
Step 8: Repeat the above for each abstract of the of the multi-paper session.
