IAMCR 2013 - Comic Art Working Group - Call for Proposals

The Comic Art Working Group invites proposals for research papers and panels for the 2013 conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) to be held at Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland from 25-29 June, 2013. The overall conference theme is "Crises, 'Creative Destruction' and the Global Power and Communication Orders".

The Comic Art Working Group aims to examine the development of comic art – including animation, comic books and strips, political and gag cartoons - world-wide in terms of its political sophistication, role in educational and conscientization initiatives, within and outside the mainstream and in terms of the implications of the corporatisation of the media.

Proposals must be submitted through the online Open Conference System of IAMCR http://iamcr-ocs.org from November 15, 2012 to January 28, 2013. Early submission is strongly encouraged. In addition to submitting the abstract via the OCS system, please send a copy to John A. Lent – Chair,  Comic Art Working Group (jlent [at] temple.edu) topped with the presenter’s name, email address, affiliation (and its address), and title of presentation.

IAMCR accepts presentations in English, French and Spanish. However, it is requested that abstracts to the Comic Art Working Group be submitted in English.

Abstracts for Comic Art should be between 100 and 150 words long.

Individuals may submit 1 abstract (paper) to the Comic Art Working Group as lead author, and a maximum of 2 abstracts (papers) to a single IAMCR conference in general.

Decisions on acceptance of abstracts will be communicated to individual applicants no later than 28 February 2013.

Presenters are expected to bring fully developed work to the conference. Prior to the conference, it is expected that a completed paper will be submitted via the IAMCR OCS by 28 May 2013.

In addition to submitting the abstract via the OCS system, please send a copy to John A. Lent – Chair,  Comic Art Working Group (jlent [at] temple.edu) topped with the presenter’s name, email address, affiliation (and its address), and title of presentation.
