IAMCR Dublin Survey

IAMCR conference participants were asked to evaluate the quality of their participation at the Dublin conference. The conference survey included questions on membership, accommodation, transportation, on-site registration, access to information, web-site and social media, plenaries and section and working group sessions among other aspects of the conference. The Dublin Conference Survey was sent to 1396 email addresses. There were 699 responses. The highlights are as follows:

  • 60.4 per cent said that they were members of IAMCR out of which 34.5 per cent  indicated that they had joined IAMCR in 2013. For 45 per cent of respondents, Dublin was their first IAMCR meeting.

  • Overall, 36 per cent found the conference very good while 50.6 per cent found it to be good.

  • Ireland's President Michael D Higgins' speech (which included references to Jürgen Habermas, Karl Marx, Raymond Williams and Sean MacBride) was evaluated as very good by 70.4% of those in attendance and good by 21%. The ‘very good’ ratings for the three other plenaries ranged from between 30.6% cent to 41.9 %, while those who thought these were ‘good’ ranged from 39.7 % to 41.6 %.

  • 46.6 per cent attended the sessions of a single section or working group while 50.7 per cent attended a variety of S & WG sessions.

  • 84 per cent found their experience of Section and Working Group sessions either Very good or Good.

  • 84 per cent indicated very good or good opportunities for intellectual exchange.

  • 66.3 per cent indicated that the lunches were satisfactory while 64.8 per cent found the coffee breaks satisfactory.

The Internationsl Coubncil and Executive Board will be involved in a finer analysis of this report in the coming months.
