Record number of submissions

Record number of submissions for IAMCR 2019

By the time the February 8 deadline was over, IAMCR 2019 had received a record-breaking 3,700 abstracts from authors in 104 different countries. An impressive vote of confidence in the work of IAMCR and the Local Organising Committee at the Complutense University. IAMCR conferences have been getting larger and more diverse over the past decade, and IAMCR 2019 promises to be the largest and most diverse ever.

Of course, success does have its costs. The review process, run by the volunteer heads of IAMCR’s 32 thematic sections and working groups, will require significantly more work than in previous years. The secretariat and the Local Organising Committee face additional complications. And for those of you who submitted papers, 3,700 submissions for a conference that only has space for 1,500 participants, means that many good proposals will not be able to be presented in Madrid.

To remind you of the next steps, the sections and working groups will complete their review of the submissions received and advise authors of the decisions by March 28. Invited authors then have until April 11 to confirm their participation. The deadline to submit final papers will be June 7. Other dates to keep in mind. Registration will open in mid-March, and reduced earlybird fees will be in effect until May 7. Finally, if you intend to apply for an IAMCR travel grant for early-career scholars from low and income countries or for any of the other scholarships and awards, the deadline to apply is April 7.
