Women make the news March 8

IAMCR/UNESCO book: Media and Gender: A Scholarly Agenda for the Global Alliance on Media and Gender

On the occasion of International Women's Day (8 March), IAMCR will once again join UNESCO and the Global Alliance on Media and Gender (GAMAG) in the annual Women Make the News (WMN) initiative. This year's them is: Gender Equality in the Media is Sustainable Development: Gender Equality in the Media by 2030.

IAMCR members are encouraged to take action to celebrate Women Make the News on International Women's Day, and every other day, and UNESCO has developed a list of 12 Ways to Celebrate Women Make the News for International Women's Day. Among the things you can do are:

  • Call on media partners to commit to ensuring that at least 30% of all sources interviewed in their news are women
  • Entrust women with editorial responsibility
  • Join the Global Alliance on Media and Gender (IAMCR is already a member)
  • Mainstream the topic at your university and in your classes
  • Promote UNESCO publications and initiatives related to the theme, including of course, the IAMCR/UNESCO publication, Media and Gender: A Scholarly Agenda for the Global Alliance on Media and Gender
