IAMCR & GAPMIL

IAMCR will participate in the First European Forum on Media and Information Literacy, a joint effort with UNESCO and the European Commission, within the framework of the Global Alliance for Partnerships in Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL). IAMCR is a member of GAPMIL, which is an effort to promote international cooperation to ensure that all citizens have access to media and information competencies. It was launched in June 2013, as a joint initiative of UNESCO and other key stakeholders.

Professor Divina Frau-Meigs (Sorbonne Nouvelle and UNESCO Chair) will represent IAMCR at the event, which will take place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, May 27-28. A report on the forum and GAPMIL will be presented at IAMCR/Hyderabad during a Special Session on Media Education, Wed., July 18, 2-3:30pm

Also, an announcement will be made at the forum about the release of 29 independent reports from leading European media literacy experts by the European COST network, “Transforming Audiences/Transforming Societies,” and the French research group, TRANSLIT on converging literacies. These independent reports focus on the policy frameworks, the action plans for capacity building and the role of engaged stakeholders. The main findings will be disclosed at UNESCO, together with a set of recommendations and a Declaration on “Augmented MIL in the Digital Era.” The complete list of experts and their national reports can be accessed and downloaded at www.translit.fr.
