Update from Montreal

We are one step closer to the 2015 edition of the annual conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research hosted by Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Under the theme of Hegemony or Resistance? On the Ambiguous Power of Communication, more than 2,200 abstracts were submitted through the OCS system for the conference. The local organizing committee would like to thank everyone for their contribution and is looking forward to this successful 2015 edition of the conference.

Registration for the IAMCR UQAM 2015 conference is now open at http://iamcr.org/congress/montreal2015/register2015! Make sure to register before the early bird deadline on May 6, 2015. A draft programme of the conference is available on the IAMCR website.

Newly announced speakers David Lyon, Robin Mansell, Clemencia Rodríguez and Suzanne de Cheveigné will join Indrajit Banerjee, Martin Alfredo Becerra, Andrew Feenberg, Jamal Eddine Naji and Serge Proulx.

If you have any inquiries about attending the conference and regarding your stay in Montreal, you can contact the local organizing committee at iamcr2015@uqam.ca. You will find online a list of recommended hotels that offer a special price for conference delegates and more details about the city in the Montreal section.

Many social and cultural activities are planned during the conference. The opening  conference and ceremony will take place at the distinguished Palais des congrès de Montréal on July 12, 2015. A Music and Dancing evening in the UQAM Sanguinet Garden will be organised  on July 15, 2014. An optional Gala Dinner is scheduled to take place on July 14, 2015  aboard the AML Cavalier Maxim. The cruise is a unique opportunity to access exclusive views of the city during the night out on the St. Lawrence River. Tickets can be  purchased at an additional cost when you register.

Two letters, with information, tips and requests have been sent to everyone with papers accepted for presentation at the conference. They are also online at http://iamcr.org/congress/montreal2015/letter1 and http://iamcr.org/congress/montreal2015/letter2
