Statement

I have been an IAMCR member since I started graduate school in 2011. I am drawn to IAMCR given its history of challenging dominant ideologies and its diverse membership and strong representation of colleagues who work in, or hail from, the global South. I would love the opportunity to contribute to continuing that legacy.

I am associate professor in media and communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). My work examines the geopolitics of global communications, particularly in relation to news media and popular culture. I am interested in the political contestation of narratives around digital technologies, as well as of representations of time and memory, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa. I am also an editor of the Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication.

I support Omar's candidacy to be a member of the International Council. His views on the field from the geopolitics of global communication will add value to the discussions and debates that shape IAMCR.

I would like to endorse Omar for the International Council. Omar is keen on taking a stand and on standing up for the oppressed and marginalised. in times of conflict and blatant injustices, it is essential to have people like him in positions of power and visibility within an international forum like IAMCR.

Omar is the right candidate to sit on the International Council.
Omar is brave enough to stand for the marginalised and oppressed and is much needed to have on the International Council of IAMCR to make sure the organisation stay true to its mission.
