Statement

I am a firm believer in academic collaboration. In an era where complex challenges demand multifaceted solutions, academic collaboration enables the pooling of resources and the harnessing of collective intelligence. If I become part of IAMCR’s International Council, I will use this platform to cultivate a global academic community, break down silos and promote a culture of knowledge-sharing.

I have been active at IAMCR for almost a decade.  I am one of the first IAMCR Ambassadors, representing Bangladesh since 2015.  As ambassador, I organize the Dhaka Media Summit – an annual regional event that brings together more than 100 academics and practitioners to discuss important issues in media and journalism.  I have also been a member of IAMCR’s Membership Committee since November 2019.

I am the Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of the Media Studies and Journalism Department, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). ULAB has been an IAMCR institutional member since 2010.  I earned my Doctor of Philosophy and Master’s Degree in Communication from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. Before joining ULAB, I headed the postgraduate program of a public relations school in Indonesia and served as a research fellow at Kasetsart University, Thailand.

I feel honoured to write this recommendation letter for Professor Jude William Genilo for his candidature as a member in International Council for the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) community.

As his colleague and as a faculty member of the Media Studies and Journalism Department of this university, I can attest to the fact that Professor Jude is an honest, dynamic, experienced and supportive scholar in the area of media, public relations and communication studies. Recently he has been promoted to Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh for his excellences in coordination, networking, and administrative skills in the higher education arena. From his everyday interaction and guidance, we also add value to our knowledge and skills, which help us develop time-befitting course outlines and teaching materials for our students, and increase our skills in doing research in media and communication studies.

Professor Jude is always motivating us to thrive in international networks such as IAMCR to explore theories, knowledge, and commendations to empower students, researchers, general people and scholars in the developing countries particularly in Asia. I believe if he is selected as a member of the International Council of IAMCR, he will delegate our voices in your IAMCR forums properly from South Asia. Therefore, I post my vote in favour of his membership in this council with a recommendation to consider his suitability to serve our interests at IAMCR.

It is a great pleasure for me to write this endorsement letter in support of Prof. Jude Genilo’s candidacy for the International Council of IAMCR.
As an academic I have been growing up for the last ten years and half with Prof. Jude’s passionate lead and mentorship. I see him as a passionate educator/educational leader who always looks for ways to improve- as in “perfection is always a work in progress,” and motivates everyone to pursue excellence. Also, he upholds the value of GROWING TOGETHER.
Prof. Jude has been working at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) since 2009 as the Head of Media Studies and Journalism department. Under his strategic and visionary leadership, the department has grown significantly, became one of the best communication and media schools in the country, earned recognitions at national, regional (South and Southeast Asia) and global level for its quality graduates who impact the industry and community, quality publications, collaborative projects that impact the society, outreach programs etc.
As an ambassador, Prof. Jude is carrying the IAMCR flag in Bangladesh for [almost] a decade. He has always been active in this role. He led the establishment of Dhaka Media Summit, an annual conference organized by ULAB and IAMCR, that successfully completed two editions in 2022 and 2023 wherein over 100 academics and practitioners came together in each of the editions. Also, IAMCR Bangladesh organizes several research workshops, lectures, master classes where students and young professionals, and general publics in some cases, get the opportunity to interact with academics and practitioners working in both local and global institutions.
I believe Prof. Jude will contribute significantly to the strategic growth of the organization both at the global and regional level.
