Svetlana S. Bodrunova, 42, is Doct.Hab. and Professor at School of Journalism and Mass Communications, St.Petersburg State University, Russia; she also holds an MA from University of Westminster, UK. She has taught in Russia, Germany, Finland, Estonia, Kazakhstan, and Pakistan (including the IAMCR Spring School). In 2014-2018, she created and co-directed ‘Global Communication and International Journalism’, a double-degree MA program (SPbU/Freie Universität Berlin).

Svetlana’s publication profile includes 180+ publications in three languages, 80+ WoS CC/Scopus-indexed, 14 Q1. Since 2011, she has led six research projects and, since 2020, the SPbU Center for International Media Research. She serves on seven journal boards and has (co-)edited special issues in Digital Journalism, Social Media+Society, Media and Communication, and Future Internet. In 2013-2022, she hosted an international conference ‘Comparative media studies in today’s world.’ Her conferencing includes 14 keynote speeches since 2017.

Svetlana is recipient of three NAMMI awards and the Neva Award for theory. She was part of projects by UNESCO, World Policy Forum, and URBAN20, member of Global Risk Journalism Hub, ICA’s B. Aubrey Fisher Mentorship Award committee, and leader of ICA’s Regional Hub Russia.

Her research interests unite journalism practices and standards with modern deliberation studies and AI-based methods in legacy/social media research. She advocates for normative change in research on mediatized public spheres and public consensus.

I consider her as one of Eastern Europe's most prominent and influential communication scholars and a capable organizer of academic events.
