By Colin Chasi
Mongrelisation offers a critical re-interpretation of why diversity and inclusion matter, reclaiming the figure of the “mongrel” as a site of dignity rather than insult. Drawing on African moral traditions such as Ubuntu and Maat, the book argues that mongrelity—the condition of mixing and crossing—is central to human histories, biologies, ecologies, and cultures, and therefore demands careful humanisation.
Engaging cosmopolitan, mestizo, and Afropolitan perspectives, the book situates hybridity alongside figures such as the hybrid, the Creole, and the coyote. In doing so, it makes a significant contribution to Africana philosophy and contemporary debates on identity, belonging, and inclusion.
