Statement

Seldag Peschke
Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Turkiye
I am honored to present my candidacy for Co-Chair of the Law Section of IAMCR where I am a member since 8 years. As a full professor with a long-standing commitment to research, teaching, and international collaboration, I am motivated to contribute to a dynamic, inclusive, and intellectually vibrant Law section that reflects our shared values and future vision for the field.
In a world of rapidly changing media technologies, a strong Law Section is crucial for balanced and sustainable communication and research practices that protect vulnerable groups. It also plays an important role in addressing ethical challenges and supporting responsible technological developments.
Since 2015, I am Professor and Head of Comparative Law at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in
Turkiye. Through my academic and administrative roles, I have developed strong leadership and
organizational skills. I met Prof. Loreto Corredoira and Dr. Rodrigo Cetina Presuel in Madrid during the
IAMCR 2019 conference. Since then our friendship and collaboration conƟnued. We had fruitful
discussions with Dr Fernando Gutiérrez Atala and Prof. Corredoira while they were moderating our
panel last year in Singapore, then we decided.to write a paper together from a comparative
perspective. I would like to carry this cooperation through our Law SecƟon with the current team and
the members of Law SecƟon in the next 4 years. I also value multidisciplinary cooperation with other
IAMCR secƟons. On Women’s Day, 8 March 2024, I was the speaker at the IWD webinar on “Women
Emancipation through entrepreneurship: Empowerment and Social Change,” organized by the Gender
and Communication Section.
If I am elected as co-Chair, I will further develop academic collaboration in the Law Section and
encourage broader participation and promote interdisciplinary exchange across law, media, and
technology. My aim is to support high quality research, panels and publications that enhance the
Section’s visibility and impact.
My academic work lies at the intersection of comparative law, media law, information technology law,
ethics, and personal data protection. I focus on law and ethical implication of emerging technologies
such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms, as well as safeguarding freedom of expression
and personality rights in digital environments. These challenges reflect the core aim of our Section:
fostering a critical, interdisciplinary relationship between law, media, and communication.
My professional experience bridges academia, legal practice, and public policy. As a member of Ankara
(in Turkiye) and Cologne (in Germany) Bar Associations, I am working as a certified mediator under the
Turkish Ministry of Justice, bringing norms into practice within communication skills. During my
research stays in Germany, Italy and Australia, I have engaged with diverse academic communities and
perspectives. I believe in the importance of international collaboration through projects.
Above all, I am committed to nurturing the collegial and inclusive environment of IAMCR, where
different perspectives are welcomed, debate is encouraged, and collaboration thrives.
Together, we can strengthen our Law Section’s role and ensure its relevance in a transforming digital world.
I remain sincerely grateful for your attention, your support, and your vote…
