The Visual Culture Working Group has been contributing to soliciting new ideas and creative views to examine problems with the world communication system particularly from the perspective of non-Western alternatives. Hegemony of world communication and criticism and resistance against the power in addition to new vision and alternative are the persistent theme of our working group. We have been involved in creating arguments on dynamic changes in visual art, cinema, visual media and new technology in Asia, South America and Africa in addition to changes in European and North American visual media. We welcome theoretical and practical research agenda related to visual culture. We are particularly encouraging panel proposals in relation to the main theme of this year’s conference.

The prospective themes of Visual Culture Working Group sessions would be as follows though we would not exclude any other themes related to visual cultures.

  • Cultural studies of visual art and media,
  • History of visual media,
  • Visual communication of new technology and social media
  • Visual art and aesthetics
  • Sociological and anthropological research on visual communication,
  • Cinema studies,
  • Theoretical and methodological issues in visual communication,

Guidance of abstract submission

  • Abstracts should be between 300-500 words.
  • Names of the authors, professional titles, institutional affiliations, email address should be included.
  • The title should be clearly marked
  • Abstracts (and full papers) must be submitted by OCS system on the IAMCR website (http://iamcr-ocs.org), not to the Section chair.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is Feb 9, 2015.

Individual papers and panels are possible, but all proposals must be submitted through the online Open Conference System at http://iamcr-ocs.org from 1 December 2014 – 9 February 2015. Early submission is strongly encouraged. There are to be no email submissions of abstracts addressed to any Section or Working Group Head.

The Visual Culture working group accepts abstracts in English only. However, it will arrange for presentations and sessions in English, French or Spanish.

It is expected that for the most part, only one (1) abstract will be submitted per person for consideration by the Conference. However, under no circumstances should there be more than two (2) abstracts bearing the name of the same applicant either individually or as part of any group of authors. Please note also that the same abstract or another version with minor variations in title or content must not be submitted to other Sections or Working Groups of the Association for consideration, after an initial submission. Such submissions will be deemed to be in breach of the conference guidelines and will be automatically rejected by the Open Conference System, by the relevant Head or by the Conference Programme Reviewer. Such applicants risk being removed entirely from the conference programme.

Upon submission of an abstract, you will be asked to confirm that your submission is original and that it has not been previously published in the form presented. You will also be given an opportunity to declare if your submission is currently before another conference for consideration.

Presenters are expected to bring fully developed work to the conference. Prior to the conference, it is expected that a completed paper will be submitted to Section, Working Group, Session Chairs, and/or Discussants

Any question and inquiry should be directed to the WG head.
