Institutional members of IAMCR can now name up to ten (10) PhD students as members of the Association at no additional cost. IAMCR president, Janet Wasko, says the new policy is good for everyone: “Institutional members gain visibility and provide a service to their students, the students get the experience of being part of a worldwide professional association that can help expand their networks and their horizons, and IAMCR will benefit from the injection of new ideas and perspectives that are essential to keeping the association vital.”
Student members will be provided with an account on the IAMCR website and they will enjoy most benefits of regular members, including access to conference papers posted on the site and to the IAMCR newsletter and other member-only communication. They can also join any of IAMCR’s Sections and Working Groups.
Student members from low and middle income country institutions will be able to apply for the twenty five (25) travel scholarships that will be available this year to defray the cost of attending the conference in Hyderabad and all student members can submit papers for the Smythe and Schiller Awards, the Urban Communication Foundation / IAMCR research grants, and to apply for other awards, grants and scholarships that may be available. Normally these awards require applicants to have been members of IAMCR for at least two years.
To qualify, the institutional member must pay its membership fee and register its student members online by 28 February, 2014. Details for how to register the students have been sent to all institutions and will be resent when their payment is received. The nominated students will receive further information and credentials for website access in March 2014.
