Mind blowing and inspiring

Sisanda Nkoala, a student at the University of Cape Town in South Africa received a travel grant to present her paper Malemaphobia: The role played by the media in creating the Malema Monster through selective sound bites and framing to the Journalism Research and Education Section at IAMCR 2014.

As an upcoming media and journalism scholar, the experience at the IAMCR 2014 conference was mind blowing and inspiring. Getting an opportunity to present my paper, and to be critiqued by industry peers, while also being afforded the opportunity to network with some of the world’s most renowned scholars in this field, was an experience that has changed my course as a researcher. This was the first time I presented a paper at an international conference, and I have no doubt that had it not been for the generous travel grant, I would have not been able to afford this. I would thus like to express my sincerest gratitude to all who made it possible for me to go, especially the donors who contributed. The opportunity has left a lasting impression.
