Statement

I wish to stand for election for the IAMCR International Council.

I am a feminist scholar at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. I am member of IAMCR since 2005 and have served the association in different positions.

I have been Vice-Presidente of the Association during two periods where I developed strategies to make the IAMCR more diverse and inclusive, critical and socially committed; to strengthen its management, including transparency in decision-making.

I represented the IAMCR towards UNESCO at the Global Alliance on Media and Gender and put research at the core of global debates. This has strengthen IAMCR relationship with UNESCO. I am currently chair of the IAMCR Task Force for GAMAG.

If elected, I will continue contributing to strengthen IAMCR influence in global debates and reinforce its management.

I have collaborated with Aimee on various matters within the IAMCR for many years. I have admired her dedication and commitment to the cause of women's rights and gender justice in communication for a long time: from the amazing organization of the IAMCR conference in Mexico City in 2009 to the emergence of the Global Alliance for media and Gender in 2013, all the way through setting up and chairing the UniTWIN Network on Gender Media and ICT, participating in sessions at the CSW in New York, collaboratively developing educational resources and working to bridge the world of academia with media professionals and advocates for gender equality in communication. I believe Aimèe will contribute in a precious manner to maintain the IAMCR focus on gender justice, and to be inclusive of feminist perspectives in our field, in all its complexity and through the many challenges and opportunities the digital age is posing to us.

I have worked closely with Aimee on numerous projects over the past 15 years. She is a born leader who is also organizationally astute. She has deep experience in IAMCR leadership, having served previously as IAMCR vice president. She brings expertise in communication and human rights, women's rights, and news media. She represents numerous constituencies, including Latin America, feminist scholarship, and U.N. agencies. I highly recommend her for the international committee.

Aimée was one of the vice-presidents of IAMCR, when I was its treasurer. I had the pleasure of working with her for one full EB term, and I am convinced that she can play an important role in the IAMCR IC, also as chair of the Task Force on the Global Alliance for Media and Gender (GAMAG).

I support Aimée's candidacy. I believe she will be an extremely valuable and active IC member. I've known her since 2009 when she led the organisation of the IAMCR conference in Mexico. I have followed and worked with her in various capacities since, including her first term as Vice President of the Association when I was the Secretary General. She knows the Association extremely well and has been working hard to promote inclusiveness, diversity, equality and feminist perspectives. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

I have known Aimeé and her work for more than twenty years. In Mexico and on the international scene of IAMCR she has consistently been a very hard worker, with initiative and outstanding results in communication and gender studies. I´m proud of her academic trajectory which is not easy for women in a country like Mexico. She gave new impetus to the Mexican Association of Communication Researchers when she presided over it. Also, when she organized and hosted the IAMCR Conference in our country I knew it was the beginning of an important collaboration on her behalf on a global scale. Without doubt this Council will de rewarded with her participation.
