Statement

Herewith I would like to explain my motivation to stand as candidate for the International Council of IAMCR. I have been a member and regular contributor of IAMCR since 2010. After serving as a co-chair for the Media Production Analysis Working Group for two terms, I regard IAMCR as my ‘home-conference’. Now I feel it is time for the next step: to be involved in the International Council.

In the same period as my co-chair position, I have also been involved in a movement that fights for decent working conditions at Dutch universities. I am a precarious academic and I know from experience how hard it is to let precarious voices be heard. At the same time, many universities depend on a precarious academic work force. Therefore, it is vital to include precarious representatives in all governing bodies.

Since my first participation in IAMCR I have come to appreciate it as a truly international organisation. This brings along opportunities for many collegial friendships and collaborations. At the same time, there are numerous challenges with respect to developing a sustainable conference, in the broadest sense, for future generations. I should be more than happy to contribute to this.

I strongly support Willemien's candidature for the International Council. She has been an active member of the organisation for over a decade and was an amazing co-chair for the WG Media Production Analysis, which we ran together for several years. It was a pleasure to work together and Willemien proved time and again that she does not just have good ideas but also gets things done. She is an incredibly supportive colleague with an amazing work ethic and a strong ethical compass.

I am sending this message to support Willemien as a member of the International Council. In addition to her academic prestige, for more than ten years she has worked efficiently in the Media Production Analysis working group, which she has also led with total dedication and with a positive and open attitude of support for researchers. As the current co-chair of the MPA WG, I consider her to be a good candidate for this position.

I have known Willemien for many years now, since she co-chaired the Media Production Analysis working group. She performed this role wonderfully and enthusiastically. I think that she deserves to be a member of the International Council also for her multi-cultural perspective and her thorough, creative analysis of the media. She is also a very kind-hearted woman who has traveled extensively and has a generous attitude towards every person coming from different cultures. I believe that people with a life experience like Willemien enrich IAMCR, and I will definitely vote for her for the IC! :)

Elvira Garcia de Torres, member of IAMCR for more than 10 years and currently Chair of Eth WG. I fully support Willemin’s candidacy for the International Council. I hav known her first as Vice-Chair of MPA and later Chair for many years, with total compromise and dedication to the WG and its members and a rigorous stand in the scientific work of the working group and also caring for the members. She has been a dedicated officer and because of this, her background and her personal values I am sure se will be if elected a first-rate representative and asset fir IAMCR.
