Statement

(English)

I am Yiming Chen. I hold PhDs from both Uppsala University (Sweden) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) and serve as an assistant professor at Xi’an Jiaotong–Liverpool University. My research explores three major topics in Chinese media practices driven by digital technologies: professionalism, privacy and convergence. A member of IAMCR since 2015, I regularly present my research to the IAMCR community and have been impressed by its global commitment to diverse voices. Motivated by this spirit, I am eager to serve on the International Council to promote worldwide research exchange and, especially, advocate for underrepresented voices. This vision emerges from my extensive previous experience in organizing diverse academic activities, which demonstrates my ability to foster collaborative, inclusive environments. The 2016 China-Europe Winter School, for which I was a team leader, provides an outstanding example of successful collaboration with the Participatory Communication Section of IAMCR. I will champion initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in IAMCR’s structure and research practices, and I pledge to advocate for equitable funding opportunities, accessible conferences, and multilingual resources to ensure that all researchers have the opportunity to contribute. Vote for me to bridge geographical divides and build a more inclusive IAMCR!

As a PhD researcher, I have seen Yiming intellectually grow to reach a point now where he will clearly be an asset for IAMCR. When he was working at Jinan University, we together organised a doctoral winter school on communication and participation, which turned out to be an impressive event, thanks to his organisational skills. As still an early-stage scholar, his creativity, organisational skills, originality but also his strong sense of both fairness and quality will strongly benefit IAMCR.
