Statement

(English)

I am a tenured senior researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), where I have co-founded and co-directed since 2019 the Centre Internet et Société. I am an interdisciplinary sociologist of technology, and my primary research interest is the role of technical architectures and infrastructures as instruments of Internet governance.

My involvement in IAMCR dates back to my PhD thesis; my first IAMCR conference has been México 2009, and since then, I have been a regular, relishing the highly international and diverse community that is the backbone of the Association, where I have forged lasting intellectual collaborations, as well as personal friendships.

I soon decided I would try to actively support the IAMCR community: I eventually accepted leadership roles in the Emerging Scholars Network (section co-chair, 2012-2016) and in the Communication Policy and Technology Section (vice-chair, 2017-2019; co-chair, 2020-2023). Since stepping down as CPT co-chair, I have been part of the Finances committee.

My candidacy to the IC’s next mandate stems from the willingness to keep on actively contributing to the community, as I have done for more than a decade, but with new responsibilities. Thank you for reading me, and for considering my candidacy.

I strongly endorse Francesca Musiani for the International Council. Francesca's work on technology and information security has deeply inspired my own work. She is a brilliant and talented scholar. As a member of IAMCR, she has a long history of work and dedication to the association in the leadership of the CPT section, amongst various other roles. She is also, to put it simply, a very nice person, supportive, collegial, humble. All these qualities make her an excellent candidate for the IC.

As a co-author, I can share that Francesca Musiani is an extraordinary leader in myriad ways. She is a thought leader with her own research that continues to be ahead of the times, an inspiring leader with a track record of supporting and mentoring emerging scholars at IAMCR and other research venues around the world, and a colleague of the highest integrity. Her role and wisdom will contribute significantly to the IAMCR International Council.

Francesca is without doubt one of the most dedicated, well organised, patient, kind and humble colleagues with whom I have had the pleasure to work. She is an excellent leader, a brilliant scholar, a very fair and supporting team player and a great friend to many within the IAMCR community. Over the last 15 years, she has supported IAMCR and its members in multiple ways, and I am convinced that she will continue to make significant contributions to the organisation as a member of the IC. Therefore I wholeheartedly recommend her for this role.

Francesa combines considerable research experience with a deep commitment for IAMCR. She played a very important role as co-chair of the Emerging Scholars Network, and later as a vice & co-chair for the Communication Policy and Technology Section. Even if it may sound slightly boring, I deeply appreciate her work in the IC Finances Committee, which is the best evidence of her investment in, and commitment to, IAMCR. I'm very happy to endorse her candidacy for the IC.
