Section and Working Group Heads elections in Hyderabad 2014

Several of IAMCR's Sections and Working Groups will be holding elections for their officers during IAMCR 2014 in Hyderabad. Below are the election announcements of the individual Section and Working Groups.

The elections will be managed by the incumbent officers of each section or working group, in accordance with the Rules and practices for the election of Section and Working Group Heads adopted by the International Council in Dublin, June 25th, 2013.

Please, note:

  1. Interested candidates are requested to send their name, institutional affiliation, position and a statement of no more than 200 words to the current section heads with a copy to IAMCR General Secretary Maria Michalis <M.Michalis[at]westminster.ac.uk> and to the IAMCR secretariat <membership[at]iamcr.org> by 17 June 2014.
  2. Section and Working Group officers must be IAMCR members in good standing. If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2014, please write to <membership[at]iamc.org> and request a renewal link.
  3. Candidate statements are published on the IAMCR website.

Crisis Communication Working Group

The Crisis Communication Working group has one Chair, Ass Prof. Ester Pollack, Stockholm University, and one Vice-Chair; Prof. Sigurd Allern, University of Oslo. Both will step down after the conference in Hyderabad, India, 2014. We need to fill both positions (Chair and Vice-Chair). Candidates are welcome!

Diaspora and the Media Working Group

The Diaspora and the Media Working group has one Chair, Dr Roza Tsagarousianou, University of Westminster, and one Vice-Chair; Dr Jessica Retis-Rivas, California State University Northridge. Both will step down after the conference in Hyderabad, India, 2014. We need to fill both positions (Chair and Vice-Chair). Candidates are welcome!

Environment, Science and Risk Communication Working Group

The Environment, Science and Risk Communication Working Group has one Chair, Pieter Maeseele, University of Antwerp, and one Vice-Chair; Anders Hansen, University of Leicester.

We would like to add a second Vice-Chair to the management team of the WG. Candidates are welcome! Gender and Communication Section

The Gender and Communication Section has two Chairs, Kaitlynn Mendes, University of Leicester, and Margaretha Geertsema-Sligh, Butler University.

We would like to add up to two Vice-Chairs to the management team of the working group.

Journalism Research and Education Section

Ibrahim Saleh will continue as Chair of the Journalism Research and Education Section and Kerry Green will continue as Vice Chair. Claudia Lago's mandate as Vice Chair finishes this year and she is standing for re-election.

The Section will elect one of its two Vice Chairs at its business meeting during IAMCR's congress in Hyderabad. The date and time of the business meeting will be announced and included in the final programme of IAMCR 2014.

  • Andrea Jean Baker is running for Vice-Chair

Media Education Research Section

The Media Education Research Section of the IAMCR will hold elections during their business meeting in Hyderabad on July 17.

Current officers (Co-Chairs Divina Frau-Meigs and Manuel Pinto) are stepping down after their 2 + 4 year mandate.

Media Production Analysis Working Group

The Media Production Analysis working group of the IAMCR will hold elections during their business meeting in Hyderabad on July 17.

Current officers of MPA are Roel Puijk (Chair), Chris Paterson, and Ida Schultz (Vice-Chairs).

Political Economy Section

The Political Economy Section will held elections for the board composed of one Chair and two Vice-chairs during the IAMCR 2014 Hyderabad conference.

The current Section Chair, Helena Sousa (University of Minho, Portugal) will step down and will not run for any position. There's currently only one Vice-Chair, Rodrigo Gómez (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, México).

The nominated candidates so far are:

  • Rodrigo Gómez (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, México) will step down as Section Vice-Chair and has been nominated for Chair;
  • Peter. A Thompson (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand):  nominated for Section Vice-Chair;
  • Peichi Chung (Chinese University of Hong Kong), nominated for Section Vice-Chair.
