Dignity. A concept in search of an author

In a new video, Javier Gomá, Director of the March Foundation in Madrid and lead speaker at the opening plenary session of IAMCR Madrid 2019, directs an intriguing question at the audience: why is that that dignity, the most revolutionary and transformative concept of the 20th century, has yet to find a thinker or an author capable of doing it justice?

Quite the contrary, dignity has had its share of bad press among theorists and philosophers, from Schopenhauer, who ridiculed the concept of dignity outlined by Kant, to Pinker, who in a well-known article, stated that dignity is an idiocy.

The debate is wide open.
