Welcome to Madrid Update!
This is the third in a series of “Madrid Updates” that we will be sending to current IAMCR members and people who have submitted papers to IAMCR 2019. We hope you find it useful and informative. If you do not want to receive further updates, see the unsubscribe information at the end of this message.
Send your full paper by 7 June
The deadline to submit full papers for IAMCR 2019 is 7 June and the place to submit them is https://iamcr.org/submit2019.
Before submitting, please add a title page and name your file according to the instructions on the submission page. IAMCR does not have standard guidelines for style, format or length and not all sections and working groups require full papers. If in doubt, contact the heads of your section or working group.
Papers submitted after 7 June but before 25 June will be made available to the heads of the section or working group in the final week of June.
Draft programme online
The draft programme for the 2019 IAMCR Madrid conference is online at https://calendar2019.iamcr.org/. The programme includes the section and working group parallel sessions as well as special and partner sessions. More information and events will be added soon. Third plenary session with Jeff Jarvis and Lorenzo Cotino
Professors Jeff Jarvis and Lorenzo Cotino will speak at the the third plenary session on "Communications and technology: Post-Gutenberg, post-mass", Thursday 11 July at 16h00. They join previously announced plenary speakers: Javier Gomá and Katharine Sarikakis on 8 July at 10h30, and Malavika Jayaram, Monroe Price and Yoani Sánchez on 9 July at 10h30.
Dignity, a concept in search of an author - Javier Gomá
In a new video, Javier Gomá, Director of the March Foundation in Madrid and keynote speaker at the opening plenary session of IAMCR 2019 (10h30 July 8), directs an intriguing question at the audience: Why is that that dignity, the most revolutionary and transformative concept of the 20th century, has yet to find a thinker or an author capable of doing it justice? Opening events at Cibeles Palace and Thyssen Museum
Soon, IAMCR 2019 participants will receive a special invitation. On Sunday 7th of July, the local organisers have arranged two opening events: an opening ceremony at Cibeles Palace and private visits, in various languages, to the emblematic Thyssen Museum. Participants will be kindly invited to register for one event or another.
Informal meeting for new members
The IAMCR Membership Committee, chaired by Helena Sousa, will hold an informal meeting to welcome new IAMCR members. This session aims to listen to new members’ needs, interests and expectations. After a short presentation of IAMCR, committee members will be listening, answering questions and sharing their experiences as members of IAMCR both at the academic and personal level. Read more >
Awarded: 5 International Scholarships, 21 Travel Grants and the Urban Communication Research Grant
A number of awards and grants have been announced for IAMCR 2019.
The LOC Madrid 2019 awarded five International Scholarships to Master and PhD Students from Pakistan, Spain, Nigeria, Mexico and South Africa.
IAMCR provided twenty-one travel grants to defray the cost of attending the conference for early-stage scholars who are members of IAMCR from low and middle income countries. Read more >
IAMCR and the Urban Communication Foundation announced that the 2019 UCF/IAMCR Urban Communication Research Grant will be awarded to Arlene Fernandez (University of Pennsylvania). Read more >
The winners of the IAMCR prize in memory of Herbert Schiller and the 2019 New Directions for Climate Communication Research Fellowship will be announced in the coming weeks.
Elections for Section Heads 2019
A number of IAMCR Sections and Working Groups will be holding elections for officers during IAMCR 2019 in Madrid, Spain. Read more >
Register for pre/post conference events

El 7 de junio como fecha límite para los artículos completos
La fecha tope para enviar los papers completes para ISAMCR 2019 es el 7 de junio y deben enviarse a través del enlace: https://iamcr.org/submit2019. Antes de hacer el envío, por favor añade una página para el título y nombra tu archivo siguiendo las instrucciones en la página de envíos. IAMCR no tiene normas standard en cuanto a estilo, formato o extensión, y no todas las secciones y grupos de trabajo piden papers completos. En caso de duda, contacta con los jefes de vuestra sección o grupo de trabajo.
Programa provisional online
El programa provisional de la conferencia AMCR Madrid está disponible online en https://calendar2019.iamcr.org/. El programa incluye las sesiones paralelas de las secciones y los grupos de trabajo, además de las sesiones especiales y de partners. Se añadirá más información en un futuro próximo. Tercera sesión plenaria con Jeff Jarvis y Lorenzo Cotino
Los profesores Jeff Jarvis y Lorenzo Cotino participarán en la tercera sesión plenaria sobre "Communications and technology: Post-Gutenberg, post-mass", el jueves 11 de julio, a las 16h. Participarán con los ponentes de las sesiones plenarias ya anunciados: Javier Gomá y Katharine Sarikakis el 8 julio a las 10,30, y con Malavika Jayaram, Monroe Price y Yoani Sánchez el 9 julio a las 10h30.
La dignidad, un concepto en busca de un autor, por Javier Gomá
En un nuevo vídeo, Javier Gomá, Director de la Fundación Juan March en Madrid, y ponente en la primera plenaria en IAMCR Madrid 2019, lanza una pregunta para intrigar a los asistentes: ¿Por qué el concepto más revolucionario y transformador del siglo XX, que es la dignidad, no ha tenido todavía un pensador o un escritor que le haga justicia?
Actos de Apertura en el Palacio de la Cibeles y el Museo Thyssen
Dentro de poco, los participantes de IAMCR 2019 recibirán una invitación especial. Para el domingo 7 de julio, los organizadores han programado dos actos: por una parte, la ceremonia de apertura en el Palacio de Cibeles y por otra, unas visitas privadas, con traducción a varios idiomas, al emblemático Museo Thyssen. Se ruega a los participantes que se inscriban por uno u otro evento.
Reunión informal para nuevos socios
El Comité de Afiliación de IAMCR, cuya presidenta es Helena Sousa, celebrará una reunión informal para dar la bienvenida a los nuevos afiliados. El objetivo de esta sesión es de escuchar las necesidades, los intereses y las expectativas de los nuevos miembros. Después de una breve presentación de IAMCR, los miembros del Comité pretenden escuchar, contestar a preguntas y compartir sus experiencias como miembros de IAMCR a nivel tanto académico como personal. Otorgadas: 5 Becas internacionales, 21 Becas de viaje y la Beca de investigación de comunicación urbana
Se han otorgado varios becas y premios para IAMCR 2019.
El LOC Madrid 2019 otorgó una beca internacional a 5 estudiantes de doctorado y de Máster de Pakistán, España, Nigeria, México y Suráfrica.
IAMCR ha otorgado 21 becas de viaje para sufragar el coste de asistir a la conferencia para estudiantes no graduados que son miembros de IAMCR procedentes de países de ingresos bajos o medios. Lea más >
