1/ CHANGE OF THE 2020 IAMCR CONFERENCE LOCATION
The unfortunate and difficult situation resulting from the coronavirus Covid-19 has forced IAMCR to reconsider its plans and to jointly agree not to hold IAMCR 2020 conference in Beijing. IAMCR’s Executive Board and International Council have accepted a highly suitable offer to host the conference at Tampere University in Tampere, Finland, for the same dates, 12-16 July 2020. The Tampere conference will not only maintain the same dates, but also the same theme, even the logo and other elements already prepared for Beijing, including for example, some of the plenary themes and speakers.

Authors who have submitted abstracts for the Beijing conference are now able to have them considered for Tampere, and an extraordinary reopening of the call for papers allows for a brief window for authors who chose not to submit for Beijing, to send abstracts for consideration for Tampere. Tampere has also committed to ensuring that technical facilities are in place to facilitate internet streaming of key sessions and video presentations for authors unable to attend the conference.

Some of you who submitted an abstract for the Beijing conference, will be able to come to Tampere. In that scenario, there are two options:

1/You can log in to the conference database at https://iamcr2020.exordo.com/, and cancel your participation. Of course, the PCR Section would regret this option being used.

2/You can transform their regular abstract into a video presentation abstract. This implies that you do not have to attend the Tampere conference in person, but you work will still be screened. Of course, if you want to, you also can do both: Attend the conference, and have a video presentation. You can read more in the call for submissions for video presentations

2/ IF YOU WANT TO GO TO TAMPERE, AND DID NOT SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT FOR BEIJING: THE EXTRAORDINARY CALL FOR PAPERS
The change of venue from Beijing to Tampere is accompanied with an extraordinary reopening of the IAMCR 2020 call for papers for authors who did not submit to the Beijing conference but want to have their work considered for Tampere.

See the extraordinary call for papers on the conference website at https://tampere2020.iamcr.org

The PCR Section invites all of its members, who have not submitted an abstract for the IAMCR conference in Beijing, to consider submitting an abstract for the 2020 conference in Tampere (Finland), which will be held from 12 to 16 July, 2020 at Tampere University.

Submissions for this extraordinary reopening will be accepted until Monday 2 March 2020 at 23:59 UTC. Several of IAMCR’s thematic sections and working groups, including the PCR Section, also welcome submissions for video presentations, which can be submitted to this extraordinary call.

3/ REMINDER! // NECCESITY TO CONFIRM YOUR BEIJING SUBMISSIONS TO PRESENT IN TAMPERE
If you already submitted your abstract of presentation (regular or video) or proposal for a panel to the Beijing conference and you do wish to come to the Tampere conference, and present your work there, you will have to CONFIRM your participation in Tampere, in order to have your abstract reviewed.

Please log in to the conference database (https://iamcr2020.exordo.com/), and confirm your submission, before March 2, 2020 at 23:59 UTC. If you forget to confirm, IAMCR will consider this a withdrawal.

4/ VIDEO PRESENTATION PROJECTS GROWING
The PCR Section, who is leading the video presentation project, offered all IAMCR Section and Working Groups to join the project, given the need to offer (some of the) participants that could only present in Beijing the opportunity to have their work screened in Tampere. Three more Sections and Working Groups (re)joined the project: the Audience Section (AUD), the Community Communication and Alternative Media Section (CAM) and the Media Education Research Section (MER).

This brings the total to ten, as also the following Sections and Working Groups had already joined: The Participatory Communication Research Section (PCR), the Popular Culture Working Group (POP), the Media, Communication and Sport Section (MCS), the Environment, Science & Risk Communication Working Group (ESR), the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN), the Comic Art Working Group (COA) the Global Media Policy Working Group (GMP).
