Dear colleagues,

I introduce myself as one of the promoters of the MARS WG. Since its launch in 2019, and together with Mia Lindgren as co-chair, we have been developing the group's activity. An activity very marked by the pandemic and post-pandemic years but in which we have tried to work on the global connection of audio researchers. A transversal look at the sound industries (music, audio, radio, sound) that has allowed us to generate more than interesting synergies and collaborations.
In this second term we intend to consolidate the group working, in addition to the different conferences, generating activities and proposals to keep the group active during the year.

J. Ignacio Gallego is teacher and researcher at the Communication Department of the Carlos III University of Madrid (www.uc3m.es,), Currently, he is co-director of the M.A.in Music Industry and Sound Studies at the UC3M and member of the research group “Audiovisual Diversity”. He is also content director of the Estación Podcast Festival.

Mia Lindgren

Mia Lindgren (University of Tasmania, Australia)

Dear colleagues,

I’ve been co-Chair for one term of the Music, Audio, Radio and Sound Working Group with Nacho Gallego since it’s conception in 2019. As you know, the first couple of years were impacted by the pandemic, with last year’s conference in Lyon the first time we came together face-to-face in the group.

During this time, we have run book launches and have a confirmed Podcast Studies Roundtable pre-conference booked for 25 June in Brisbane, Australia.

I am nominating for a second term as Co-Chair of the Working Group. The MARS fields continue to grow, with increasing interest in audio-based media scholarship. I would welcome the opportunity to also grow the reach and activities of the Working Group going forward.

I am a radio and podcast scholar in Australia who collaborates on interdisciplinary projects in journalism and health. I lead the research portfolio of a large faculty as Associate Dean Research in the College of Arts, Law and Education at the University of Tasmania. My own research has been published widely and, together with associate professor Jason Loviglio, I’m the co-editor of the Radio Journal: International Studies in Broadcast and Audio Media and the Routledge Companion to Radio and Podcast Studies (2022)

Gondi Surender Dhanunjay (Central University of Tamil Nadu, India)

Gondi Surender Dhanunjay, Research Scholar, Central University of Tamil Nadu, India.

I nominate myself for the Vice-Chair position of The Music Audio Radio & Sound Working Group (MARS), IAMCR.

I have taught Audio Visual Production as an Assistant Professor at Indian universities and I am currently a Ph.D. Researcher in mobile communications at the Department of Media and Communication, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, India.

I have been a member of IAMCR for the past few years and I have realized the potential The Music, Audio, Radio and Sound Working Group has to offer to the global connection of audio researchers to investigate all aspects of audio-based media around the world. I believe in fostering an environment that encourages open exchange and supports emerging scholars. I view joining the The Music Audio Radio & Sound Working Group (MARS) as an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Research in the Field and encourage young Researchers with the elected Co-chairs of the MARS.
