1/ PCR SECTION HEAD ELECTION

From 6 to 12 July 2020, we will have elections for the management of the PCR Section. More information about these elections can be found at:

For the next four-years term, the Section will (re-)elect two co-chairs and four co-vice-chairs. The following candidates are standing for (re-)election:

For Co-Chair:

>> Ana Duarte Melo (University of Minho / CECS, Portugal) (standing for re-election)
>> Dorismilda Flores-Márquez (Universidad De La Salle Bajío, México)

For Co-Vice-Chair:

>> Jonas Agerbæk (Roskilde University, Denmark) (standing for re-election)
>> Piyu Gong (Jinan University, China)
>> Arun John (University of Hyderabad, India)
>> Ana Lúcia Nunes de Sousa (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

2/ IAMCR 2020 CONFERENCE UPDATE

The submission period for the IAMCR 2020 Online Papers ended on 19 June 2020.

Out of the 56 papers accepted for the PCR Online Conference Papers, 52 were effectively submitted. Moreover, one of the presenters for the PCR Online Session has submitted a paper as well. Also, exceptionally, one late submission has been accepted. This means that the total number of papers submitted for the PCR Online Conference Papers is 54.

These 54 papers have been grouped in the following 10 panels: 1/Communicative agency in later life, 2/Community/Alternative Media Participation, 3/Cultural Institutions and Participation, 4/Economies, Cultural Industries and Participation, 5/Health, Food and Participation, 6/On the Participation of Citizens and Activists, 7/Participation and Development, 8/Participation, Rituals and Stories, 9/Participatory Communication in China, & 10/Social Media Participation.

All PCR Online Conference Paper presenters have also been invited to respond to one paper in their panel. The respondents received “their” paper on 27 June 2020, allowing them to start preparing their feedback already now.

In addition, the PCR Section will organize one Online Session. This session is entitled “Complicating Participation”, and consists of the total of 5 video presentations and an introduction by the current section chair, Nico Carpentier. The line-up of the online session is:

>> Tom Jacobson and Nicole Lemire Garlic: “Conceptualizing Participatory Processes at Multiple Levels of Analysis"

>> Jo Katambwe: “Disjunctive Participation: Metalogue as the grand narrative and process of digital societies in 21th century”

>> Lauren Dyll: “Possibilities and Complications in Cultural Heritage Recording: A case of the participatory Mashishing Marking Memories Project, South Africa

>> Kirill Filimonov: “Defying the State as a Discourse: Inclusion, Vulnerability and Trust in Russian Alternative Media”

>> Anu Kantola: “Preferring Silence: How the Wealthiest Participate and What It Means for Studies of Participation”

3/ FEEDBACK GUIDELINES FOR THE IAMCR 2020 ONLINE CONFERENCE

The PCR Section encourages all its members to give feedback to the work of their colleagues presenting at the IAMCR 2020 Online Conference.

Giving feedback on, and participating in discussions about, the video presentations and the online papers is considered crucial for the success of the conference, and we welcome your input.

4/ JOIN US AT THE PCR SECTION GET-TOGETHER

The Participatory Communication Research Section invites its members to for a get-together, organized with the purpose of socializing and celebrating the IAMCR 2020 conference. The PCR Section will also say goodbye to (a part of) its management and will be welcoming the new Section management.

The get-together is hosted on Friday 17 July at 1PM (Tampere local time, UTC+3 hours) on Mozilla Hubs. To receive access information, members need to send an email to the PCR Secretariat (pcr.secretariat@fsv.cuni.cz).
