1/ RIP ARUN JOHN, ONE OF US
We are overwhelmingly saddened and shocked with the premature loss of Arun John, our friend and colleague on February, 6th.
Arun joined the PCR section in 2020 as Vice-Chair, bringing very positive energy to the team. He had a special ability to ask the right, good questions. Questions that would entice us to follow up and go further. He did a lot of backstage work, preparing conferences and events and it is a shock that he couldn't make it to our 54th meeting. Currently he was working on a participatory video project, teaching and collaborating with Annapurna College of Film and Media and a PhD student of the Department of Communication at Hyderabad University.
Arun was one of us. He will be missed and remembered.
2/ IAMCR CHRISTCHURCH 2024 | REVIEW IN PROGRESS
As the submission period ended on February 7th, the PCR received 111 abstract proposals. After initial filtering, identification of invalid or repeated submissions and redirection to other sections and groups, 90 proposals remained. These abstracts come from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay and, of course, New Zealand.
The review process is now in full speed, with a systematic double blind peer review by a team of 24 reviewers to whom we thank in advance for volunteering to the job.
3/ NEW PCR HEAD ELECTION IN 2024
The Participatory Communication Section of IAMCR will choose another Head in 2024.
The current management team will cease functions as elections will take place according to the general election schedule of IAMCR, from 23 April to 14 May. The call for candidates will be open from 26 March to 16 April.
All members registered in the Section are eligible to stand for a position and to vote. Please take note of the key dates:
- 26 March - call for candidates launched
- 16 April - deadline to receive candidate statements
- 23 April to 14 May - voting period
- 20 May - Election results announced

The PCR Head encourages participation with the submission of applications for positions in the new coordinating team as well in the election process.
4/ IAMCR 2024 AWARDS & GRANTS
IAMCR will be offering several awards - the IAMCR 2024 award in memory of Annabelle Sreberny; Urban Communication Award; Climate Change Communication Award; Rural Communication Services Research Award - to support participation in the 2024 conference, including 25 travel grants!

1/ DESCANSE EN PAZ ARUN JOHN, UNO DE NOSOTROS
Estamos abrumadoramente tristes y en shock por la prematura pérdida de Arun John, nuestro amigo y colega el 6 de febrero.
Arun se unió a la Sección de Investigación en Comunicación Participativa en 2020 como vice-coordinador, aportando una energía muy positiva al equipo. Tenía una habilidad especial para hacer las preguntas correctas, preguntas que nos incitarían a seguir e ir más allá. Hizo mucho trabajo tras bambalinas, en el apoyo para la preparación de conferencias y es una sorpresa que no pudiera asistir a nuestra 54ª reunión. En los últimos meses, se encontraba trabajando en un proyecto de vídeo participativo, enseñaba y colaboraba con la Annapurna College of Film and Media y era estudiante de doctorado del Departamento de Comunicación de la Universidad de Hyderabad.
Arun era uno de nosotros. Le echaremos de menos y le recordaremos.
2/ IAMCR CHRISTCHURCH 2024 | REVISIÓN EN PROCESO
Al llegar la fecha límite para enviar propuestas el 7 de febrero, nuestra Sección recibió 111 resúmenes. Tras el filtrado inicial, la identificación de propuestas no válidas o repetidas y la redirección a otras Secciones y Grupos de Trabajo, nos quedamos con 90 propuestas. Estas proceden de Australia, Austria, Brasil, Canadá, China, República Checa, Hong Kong, India, Japón, Kazajstán, Corea, Macao, Malasia, México, Filipinas, Portugal, Federación Rusa, Sudáfrica, España, Taiwán, Reino Unido, Estados Unidos, Uruguay y, por supuesto, Nueva Zelanda.
El proceso de revisión está ahora en marcha, con una revisión sistemática por pares a doble ciego a cargo de un equipo de 24 revisores, a quienes agradecemos de antemano que estén haciendo esta tarea voluntariamente.
3/ ELECCIÓN DE LA NUEVA COORDINACIÓN DE LA SECCIÓN EN 2024
La Sección de Investigación en Comunicación Participativa de IAMCR deberá elegir una nueva coordinación en 2024.
El equipo actual termina su encomienda de cuatro años y las elecciones serán, de acuerdo con el calendario de elecciones de IAMCR, del 23 de abril al 14 de mayo. La convocatoria a candidaturas abrirá del 26 de marzo al 16 de abril.
Todas y todos los integrantes con registro vigente en la Sección son elegibles para postularse para una posición y para votar.
Las fechas clave están a continuación:
- 26 de marzo - lanzamiento de la convocatoria a candidaturas
- 16 de abril - fecha límite para recibir propuestas de candidaturas
- 23 de abril al 14 de mayo - período de votación
- 20 de mayo - anuncio de los resultados de las elecciones

El equipo coordinador de la Sección anima la participación mediante la presentación de candidaturas para las posiciones del nuevo equipo, así como en el proceso de elección.
4/ IAMCR 2024 PREMIOS Y APOYOS
La IAMCR ofrecerá varios premios - el Premio IAMCR 2024 en memoria de Annabelle Sreberny; el Premio de Comunicación Urbana; el Premio de Comunicación sobre el Cambio Climático; el Premio de Investigación sobre Servicios de Comunicación Rural; para apoyar la participación en la conferencia de 2024.
