Environment, Science & Risk Communication Working Group

The objective of this Working Group is to provide a forum at IAMCR conferences for scholars researching in the field of media and communication on ‘Environmental Issues, Science and Risk’ to present and discuss their research. A second objective is to provide a focal point - through the visibility afforded via IAMCR for contact and networking among scholars interested in this sub-field of media and communication research.

To join the Environment, Science & Risk Communication Working Group, login to your account and select My Sections and Working Groups from the menu. A number of IAMCR sections and working groups send notices and other information exclusively to their members. IAMCR members can join up to five sections or working groups.

This Working Group specialises in research on media and public understanding of science and environment issues; science and health-related media panics; science and environmental journalism; media roles in global environmental controversy; the political uses or constructions of nature; and the roles of pressure groups, new media and activism with respect to science and environment issues. Because risk perceptions vary culturally and within specific communities, this working group is located under this theme.
